Aokigahara
Song info: this song is about the infamous Japanese "suicide forest" known as Aokigahara, where many go to take their own lives. The lyrics were originally for the song which later became Crimson Butterfly... The Repentance. This song's middle section was inspired by "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath (namely that song's section before the second verse). Oddly, even though this song has three solos and a bass solo, it was probably the easiest to record. Its main riff was inspired by Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love". The bass line under the main riff came from a band that never quite materialized. The guitarist asked me to play something, and it happened on the spot. I have a recording of a song he put together building off of it, but only wanted to use the bass part so it didn't seem like I was stealing anything.
Lyrics
The void calls me at the forest's edge To enter chambers of eternal rest My path led me here and I have no shame Death meets with all and we'll be silent all the same When nothing in life can bring warmth, joy, or hope And emptiness is something you can't cope A place that welcomes you with a corpse's smile Aokigahara where to shame death is vile Forest of an untold years of pain Where suffering is lost and peace is gained Spirits of the dead greet me as I find a tree This place will be the resting grounds for me |
